As
the name of the festival suggests it is held annually in Bikaner to
celebrate the contribution of the ship of the desert camel in the lives
of the people of Rajasthan. This fair is organized by the Department of
Tourism and Art & Culture of Rajasthan and draws tourist in large
numbers to experience the culture of Rajasthan. With the camel festival
held in January the state of Rajasthan inaugurates a host of colorful
festivals which are held throughout the year. The camel festival begins
with the grand procession of bedecked and bejeweled camels against the
picturesque backdrop of the royal Junagarh fort. The spectacle of beautifully adorned camels in hundreds and an equally decked up masters of the ship of the Desert in royal turbans and traditional attires simply leaves the spectator bewitched. The festival revolves around the magnificent camels that get an outlet to showcase their talents here. The camels keep the visitors enthralled with their charm and graceful acts. A host of competitions and cultural programmes are organized with the camels being the protagonist. The most amazing event is the camel dance where the camels follow the simple instructions of their masters and sway to the music displaying brilliant footwork. Camel acrobatics just keep the spectator astonished with their marvelous moves. Camel milking competition, camel races, the best breed competition and camel fur cutting competition are some of the interesting competitions which would keep the visitor busy through the day. Not to forget the adventurous camel ride, this too can be enjoyed during the festival.
The evenings during the Bikaner camel festival begin with campfire lit grounds which give the most romantic feel to the place. Adding beauty to the ambience are the numerous folk musicians and dancers who charm the audience with their alluring performances. The fire dancers and the beautiful fireworks lit up both the land and the sky together at night which is a mesmerizing spectacle not to be missed.
