Lake Pichola

Lake PicholaThe Pichola Lake deriving its name from the erstwhile village Picholi which stood on the banks of the Lake is one of the most beautiful Lakes of not just Rajasthan but India. The Pichola Lake is not merely popular for its enchanting beauty but is also of immense significance historically. The founder of the city of Udaipur Maharana Udai Singh II could think of building this new city just because of the presence of this small water body which was later expanded by him. He built a masonry dam called Badipol over the Lake and that is how the Lake is today 4 km long and 3 km wide.

The beauty of the Lake is immensely enhanced by the scenic surroundings and the Aravalli hills forming the background of the Lake. The Lake Pichola is enveloped by magnificent palaces and temples on its banks. The mesmerizing Lake only must have been a reason for Maharana Udai Singh II to build residences for himself and his family on the Lakeside. The City palace and Fateh Prakash palace towering over the Pichola Lake look splendid.

The ghats of Lake Pichola come alive and are at the peak of activity during the much famous Gangaur Festival of Udaipur. Like a crowning jewel the Lake Palace is situated in the middle of Lake Pichola. One can enjoy boat rides on the tranquil Lake Pichola and have an enthralling experience. Tourist from across the globe throng to this beautiful destination in Udaipur, which cannot be anyways missed once you are in the royal city. The memory of Lake Pichola will surely be embedded on your minds after a visit here and would always remind you to come again to this eastern Venetian paradise.
