The
summer palace of the Maharana of Udaipur Lake palace was built by
Maharana Jagat Singh in 1743. Originally known as the Jag Niwas the
palace is built over an entire island cover of 1.5 hectare over Lake
Pichola. Now converted into luxury hotel the marble palace is one of the
most magnificent palaces of India. Set against the backdrop of the
majestic Aravali hills the palace seems to come alive on the Lake in a
moonlit night. The ornamental rooms of the palace are decorated by
beautiful green lotus leaf motifs, painted mirrors, cusped arches and
inlaid pink stones.There are numerous apartments within the palace like khush mahal, bada mahal, phool mahal, dhola mahal and sajjan niwas. All these sections of the Lake palace simply behold the spectator by there bewitching beauty. The courtyards of the Lake Palace have been testimony to several royal durbars of Udaipur. The courtyards of the palace are beautifully adorned with pillared terraces, carved columns, fountains and gardens. The Lake Palace Hotel today has 17 suites and 53 deluxe rooms and also boasts of a swimming pool, a coffee shop, bar, jewellery and a souvenir shop. The entire aura of the Palace has a romantic feel to it and it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful palaces of India.
